TDF's National Autism Friendly Performance Training Program was founded in 2012 in the spirit of sharing ideas and methodology when it comes to launching autism-friendly or sensory-friendly programming.

What does TDF provide?

TDF will provide step-by-step support for your organization in the planning of its first autism-friendly or sensory friendly performance. TDF shares examples of our supports (social narratives, character guides, etc.), methodology when it comes to things such as technical modifications and day-of supports, as well anecdotal solutions to almost any obstacle you may encounter. Our Accessibility team will be available to you for conference calls and email support throughout the planning process. In addition, TDF will list your shows on this site and promote them via social media.

How much does this cost?

Our national training programs are offered at no cost to theatres. TDF requires proper accreditation and the opportunity for one to two of our staff members to monitor the first autism-friendly/sensory-friendly performance at the partnering venue to provide support day-of and debrief afterwards.

How do I apply?

It's very simple. Just send a letter of inquiry describing your theatre’s current accessibility services and where you are in the planning process with offering autism-friendly/sensory-friendly programming. After your letter is submitted TDF will contact you to schedule an introductory conference call.

TDF’s National Autism Friendly Performances Training Program in supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
